Welcome to the Gallery

Welcome to the Gallery, showcasing a curated collection of Susan Trubow's diverse artistic styles and mediums. As a passionate artist and educator, Susan emphasizes the importance of art education by sharing not only her artwork but also her insights into various techniques. This gallery serves as a window into her creative process, featuring descriptions that accompany each medium—including digital art, life drawing, and screen printing—to provide an educational perspective on the unique qualities that make each piece a captivating work of art.

About Digital Drawing

Susan Trubow creates her digital art on an iPad with an Apple Pencil using the app Procreate. She often takes her iPad to her drawing group, where she engages in life drawing from a model. Starting with a gestural line, she then applies color and textures to complete her portraits. This medium not only enhances her art education but also offers a different experience from traditional forms, allowing her to explore screen printing techniques and make changes with a freedom unique to the digital space. Below, you can find a small collection of her works.

    About Screen Printing

Screen printing is a versatile printmaking technique used in art education, where a design is created by pushing ink through a mesh screen onto paper with a rubber squeegee. The squeegee forces ink through a stencil, which is a non-porous material with perforations that allow ink to pass through in specific areas.

Susan Trubow employs a variety of unique techniques to create her stencils, including screen blocking fluids, crayons, and even hairspray. Once a stencil is complete, she skillfully pushes ink across the screen to transfer the design. To create stunning multi-layered prints, each color is printed in an edition, one layer at a time. After each layer dries, a new stencil is used for the next color. Some of her prints require just a few stencils, while others are built up with fifteen or more layers. This process showcases her talent in both traditional screen printing and digital art. Below, you'll find a small collection of her works that highlight her expertise in life drawing as well.

      About life Drawing

Susan Trubow has been involved with art education and drawing groups for over forty years. She finds that life drawing from models can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. The drawings in this collection are composed in charcoal as she reacts to and represents the posing models. Using techniques from both traditional drawing and digital art, these compositions are crafted by drawing with charcoal on paper, making and altering marks and shapes to express a representation of the model. For Susan, it is an interactive experience, with many variables involved in the negotiation and completion of each drawing, including methods like screen printing. Below, you will find a small collection of her works.
